I’m originally from Dallas and after living in New York City and working for Douglas Elliman for 12 years, a family illness brought me back to Texas on a regular basis. I would fly into San Antonio as my family was living just outside the city, and remembering while growing up in Dallas that everyone loved Austin, I decided to fly into Austin instead. I fell in love with the city immediately and after laying on the banks of Ladybird Lake and watching the bats on their nightly outing, I knew that I wanted to spend a lot more time here. With regular visits to care for a sick family member, I decided to get my Texas real estate license with thoughts of making the move permanent one day.
As I spent more time in Austin, work beckoned in New York so I eventually set up a team that would enable me to continue to handle my business there with occasional travel between the two cities.
In Austin, I started at Keller Williams Portfolio office before joining a team at Compass until I heard that Douglas Elliman was launching in Texas by reading a headline that said; “The Cartier of real estate companies is coming to Houston.” When I learned that it was to be the first-ever joint venture between Douglas Elliman and Jacob Sudhoff’s Sudhoff Companies, I knew that this is where I wanted to be.
When I first began working in real estate I worked for a small discount firm. I soon realized that this business model did not allow me to service my clients well and while I liked the idea of saving money for my clients, I quickly learned that advertising costs and overhead were adding up faster than income. I also had access to high net worth clients who wanted a reputable name behind them which is why I moved to Douglas Elliman. Over the years I’ve seen the “discount brokerages” come and go, and if it were a sustainable model this would not be the case. The advantages of being represented by a big firm for buyers and sellers are too many to mention. These days real estate agencies are boasting of their high tech and data, but at Douglas Elliman, we were using technology, data analytics, and extensive market reporting and were state of the art quite literally since that phrase came to be.
During my career of 18 years, I’ve sold everything from a $165k house in Cedar Park to a $24M townhouse in New York City. In the Austin area, I have sold homes from Georgetown to downtown, to South Austin. I love what I do and the best part is the opportunity to meet and work with great people. Guiding and helping them navigate the ever-changing real estate market and achieve their dreams and goals is extremely rewarding, and whether it’s a fixer-upper in East Austin or a mansion on Lake Austin I’m happy to help and I look forward to helping people discover Austin real estate!
